STRUCTURAL EDITING

Structural editing is the developing phase where we review the entire document, identify any structural problems and apply the correct structure model so that the organisation of ideas has a logical flow and is clear to the intended audience.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • Deciding if your current structure is correct for the type of document

  • Analysing the hierarchy of headings and appropriate content within it

substantive EDITING

Substantive editing is an in-depth analysis of the content and expression of the written communication. It is the most detailed level of editing and includes structural editing, copyediting, and consultancy if the content needs clarification. Although it is not the editor’s responsibility to ensure specialist knowledge on the subject, it is up to the business. If required, this may or may not include an editor with specialised subject knowledge. e.g. a legal document by an editor with a legal background or a science document with an editor with a science background.

Everything should be correct and neat but with a last final check for assurance.
